A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME
"Yes sure, what is it, son?" he said looking all surprised.
"Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"
"That’s none of your business. How dare you ask such a thing?" The man said angrily.
"I just want to know, please tell me." pleaded the little boy.
"If you must know I make £20 an hour." Replied the boys father.
"May I borrow £10 please?"
The father was furious, "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to bed. I work long hard hours every day and don’t have time for such childish behaviour."
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and thinking about the boy’s behaviour, was naturally very angry.
How dare he ask such a question only to get some money? After about half an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think that he may have been a little hard on his son. Maybe there was something he may have really wanted with that £10 and he rarely did ask for money. So the father went up to his bedroom.
"Are you asleep son?" he asked.
"No daddy, I am awake." replied the boy
"I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier on. It's been a long day, and I took out my aggravation on you. Son, here is the £10 you asked for."
The little boy sat up straight, smiling "Oh daddy!" he yelled.
Then reaching under his pillow he pulled out some coins that he had saved already.
The father on seeing that the boy had already got some money, became angry once again.
The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up to his father.
"Why do you want more money when you already have some?" The father grumbled.
"Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do. Daddy, I have £20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? please come home early tomorrow I want to have dinner with you."
Note:
It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah said: "Each of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock. The ruler who is in charge of people is a shepherd and is responsible for them. The man is the shepherd of his household and is responsible for them. The woman is the shepherd of her husband’s house and child and is responsible for them. The slave is the shepherd of his master’s wealth and is responsible for it. Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock." Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2416; Muslim, 1829
